Easter is just around the corner and many families will be hoping to use the break as a chance to get away with the kids. If you haven't already booked somewhere, now is the perfect time to start hunting for a last-minute bargain.

To give you some inspiration, here are a few locations that are perfect for a family holiday and often cheap during the Easter period.

Costa del Sol

A place of fantastic beaches and stunning weather, the Costa del Sol is an ideal place for a budget holiday with the kids.

One of the best things about this part of Spain is the variation in terms of different resorts and the entertainment they offer the kids.

Torremolinos has the fanatic Aquapark, Fuengirola has an amazing zoo and that's just the tip of the activities you'll find on offer here. There's also the many beaches to explore as well as the culture of the region's capital Malaga.

The Canary Islands

These volcanic islands offer the perfect contrast of beautiful scenery and a lazy beach culture.

At four hours' flying time, the Canaries may be the furthest distance you want to travel with younger children, but when you consider the wide variety of things that these Spanish islands offer, you'll be willing to make the journey.

Each island has its own charms, making it easy to pick one that best suits your family. Lanzarote is known for its unusual volcanic landscape, Gran Canaria is a hiking hub and Tenerife is a lively place full of colour and fun.

All the islands are blessed with warm weather, blue waters and idyllic beaches - what are you waiting for?

Barcelona

If you want to hit the beach, but don't want your holiday to be centered around the sand, Barcelona is the ideal city for you.

The Catalan capital boasts a wonderful beach, but the city offers much more than this. Stroll down Las Ramblas and let the kids marvel at the many bizarre street performers, head up Tibidabo to the amusement park or take an afternoon at the Barcelona Aquarium.

For culture, visit Gaudi's famous Sagrada Familia and challenge your kids to brave the top. For any football mad children, a visit to Barcelona F.C's Camp Nou stadium is a must. See Lionel Messi and co dazzle spectators with their silky skills and sublime passing - the sensational atmosphere makes it a treat for the whole family, whether you like the sport or not.

Turkey

Although Turkey isn't at its hottest during Easter, the weather is still warm enough for a holiday and the off-peak period makes it much cheaper.

Popular holiday resorts Bodrum, Dalaman and Antalya are located in the south/south-west of the country and are some of the best places for low-cost getaways to the country. Side is another great option which is often overlooked in favour of the country's better-known areas.

Whether you are after a break on the beach or fancy something a little more cultural, Turkey will have something to offer you. There are over 200 blue flag beaches in the country and 13 official UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Algarve

The perfect combination of history and stunning scenery, Portugal's most southern region is a great place to spend a holiday with the family. From the history of Faro's old town to the scenic boat tours available in Lagos, the Algarve has plenty to offer active families.

Temperatures are just starting to hot up in the Algarve around Easter, but, being months from the peak season, prices are still reasonable.

With it being relatively small, you can also rent a car and explore the different villages and beaches here. In terms of food, seafood lovers will be right at home.

Holiday in the UK

The best way to keep it cheap is to holiday on your doorstep, and with so many wonderful places to go in the UK you really are spoiled for choice.

If the weather stays as fine as it has been recently, you may wish to risk a British beach trip. The Pembrokeshire Coast in southern Wales is full of stunning beaches, and if the weather turns, you can explore the many charming little towns in the area.

Alternatively, outdoor families might wish to take a trip to the Lake District for a spot of hiking and trekking. As well as the serene beauty of the lakes, you'll also find the World of Beatrix Potter in Windermere - always a favourite with younger children.
