The New York mayor and NYC & Company have announced that 2015 was a record breaking year for tourism in the city, for a sixth consecutive year. An estimated 58.3 million visitors were welcomed into New York in 2015, up 1.8 million from the year before.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said, “As the safest and most exciting big city in America, we have so many rich offerings that continue to make the five boroughs a global draw.”
46 million New York visitors were domestic travellers, whilst 12.3 million were international. Both are record high numbers. 33.7 million hotel room nights were sold last year. The total number of rooms in the City’s hotel inventory is close to 107,000.
Fred Dixon, NYC & Company president, stated that “The City continues to evolve, always offering fresh reasons to visit again and again, with more new developments on the horizon.”
