Direct Travel Insurance Guide to Ethiopia

Ethiopia is the most populated landlocked country in the world; bordered by Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, and Kenya. The capital city, Addis Ababa, is both a city and a state, and is often referred to as the “political capital of Africa.” Addis Ababa has an average year round temperature of 17 degrees. With a short rainy season of February to May, and a longer wet season of June to September. This time of year coincides with the summer months, but the wet weather brings fewer sunshine hours and lower temperatures with it.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office may advise against travel to some areas of Ethiopia. Please check for updates here - https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/ethiopia - before you book your trip. Direct Travel Insurance are unable to offer cover for travel to any area against FCDO advice. You will need a visa to enter Ethiopia, and these are available on arrival for tourists at both the Addis Ababa (Bole) and Dire Dawa airports. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Ethiopia, and should have at least two blank pages.
