Not to be confused with neighbouring country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo is also known as Congo, Congo Republic, West Congo, or Congo-Brazzaville. It is bordered by Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cabinda. It has a coastline with the Atlantic Ocean, and its capital city, Brazzaville, is located on the Congo River.
Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, lies across the Congo River from Brazzaville, though any meaningful connection between the two cities is difficult, due to political and infrastructure tensions). It is the only place in the world where two capital cities are sited on opposite sides of one river, and within sight of each other.
You will need a visa to travel to the Republic of the Congo, and this must be arranged in advance of travel. Your passport should be valid for the duration of your stay.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office advise against all travel to some areas, and against all but essential travel to other areas of the Republic of the Congo. Please check for updates to travel advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office here - https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/congo - before you book your trip. Direct Travel Insurance are unable to provide cover for travel to areas or countries which the FCDO have advised against travel to.
