St Lucia (Officially named Saint Lucia) is an island located in the East of the Caribbean Sea. Most of the population of the island lives in the capital of Castries, making it the largest city of the island.

St Lucia is a volcanic island and has more mountains that most of the other countries within the Caribbean. You are able to drive into the volcano, making St Lucia one of the only volcanic islands in the world to have this feature. St Lucia has a tropical climate. There is occasional rainfall with most of the winters being dry and most of the summers being quite wet. Temperatures can be as high as 31°C (88°F) or as low as 23°C (73°F).

You must have a full valid driving licence before you will be able to drive on St Lucia. Car hire is available, and companies will arrange a driving licence specific for St Lucia which is a requirement. You must drive on the left. Roads can be somewhat poor with many potholes and unlit areas.

Crime is not common on St Lucia but there have been rare cases. Care should be taken; try to avoid travelling alone especially at night. Avoid large crowds as best as you can.

If you have a British passport then you will not require a visa to enter St Lucia. When you arrive, you will be told a specific time in which you will be able to stay within St Lucia. You can stay for longer but you will need to apply with the local authorities.

Your passport will need to be valid for the period of your trip and for 6 months after your exit date.

Currency: East Caribbean Dollar (XCD)

It is advised to visit your health professional prior to travel. Dengue fever has been reported throughout St Lucia, Chikungunya virus cases are also being reported, you can deal with these by avoiding mosquito bites as best as you can. St Lucia can deal with most medical emergencies but this can be expensive, it is advised to get good travel/medical insurance prior to travelling. If you require medical assistance, dial 911 and ask for an ambulance.

Currently, the FCDO have not advised to avoid travelling to St Lucia with most visits being trouble-free. There is a low threat from terrorism within St Lucia.
