Direct Travel Insurance Guide to The Bahamas

The Bahamas is an island country which includes more than 700 islands. It is north of Cuba and Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and east of the Florida Keys. The capital city of Nassau is on the island of New Providence, which is the most populated of the islands.

In 1973, the Bahamas became an independent Commonwealth realm, retaining Queen Elizabeth II as its monarch. It is one of the richest countries in the Americas, and attracts a huge number of tourists every year. Over 60% of the Bahamian GDP comes from tourism, and the tourist industry employs more than half of the country’s workforce.

On average, temperatures are in the high 20’s all year in the Bahamas, with an average minimum temperature of over 17 degrees during the winter.

British nationals are usually allowed entry into the Bahamas for up to 21 days without a visa. If you wish to stay for longer than this, you will need to apply to the Department of Immigration, in Nassau. Your passport should be valid for a minimum of three months from the date of entry into the Bahamas. A departure tax may or may not be included in the price of your onward travel, but you will need to check, as all visitors are subject to this.
