Direct Travel Insurance Guide to Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The capital city, Kampala, is in the south of the country, and is the largest city in Uganda.

Kampala has a tropical rainforest climate, with two annual wet seasons; August to December, and February to June. Temperatures remain around the mid-twenties throughout the year, with average high temperatures of 29 degrees in February, and average low of around 17 degrees in July and August.

British nationals will need a visa to enter Uganda. These are available from the Ugandan High Commission in London, or at Entebbe airport on arrival into Uganda. You will need to pay for your visa in US dollars. Visas are usually granted for between two weeks and three months. Your passport should be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of entry into Uganda. When travelling in Uganda, you should carry a copy of the personal details page of your passport with you at all times, as you may be stopped and asked for ID by officials.

You are advised to visit your GP four to six weeks before you travel to Uganda, in order to ensure that any recommended vaccinations are up to date. Medical facilities in Uganda are limited, and evacuation by air ambulance may be necessary in the case of a serious illness or accident.
