The FCDO have updated their French travel advice page following a shooting incident in Paris last night (Thursday).
The attack, which happened on the Champs-Élysées, occurred just before 9pm yesterday evening.
The gunman open fired, leaving one police officer dead, and two others seriously wounded.
He was later shot dead by security forces after trying to flee the scene.
The Champs-Élysées was evacuated following the incident.
The attack, which comes just days before the French presidential election, where security is expected to be a large subject, has since reportedly been claimed by so-called terror group, Islamic State (IS).
The FCDO updated their French travel advice, to say: “The British Embassy is in contact with local authorities and urgently seeking further information following reports of a shooting incident on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
“You should remain vigilant and follow the advice of the local security authorities and/or your tour operator.
“If you’re in the area and it is safe to do so, contact your friends and family to tell them you are safe.”
The FCDO plan to update the page as more information on the incident develops.
