Airline to Launch ‘Game-Changing’ Non-Stop Route from Australia to the UK

An airline has announced that it will be the first airline to launch non-stop flights from Australia to London.

Qantas Airline has announced that they will be the first airline to fly from Perth to London non-stop.

Passengers will be able to fly the 9,000 mile route directly, on Qantas’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which will have Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins.

The flight will take a total of 17 hours, shedding several hours off of current flight times from Australia to the UK.

Alan Joyce, Qantas Group CEO, said: “When Qantas created the Kangaroo route to London in 1947, it took four days and nine stops. Now it will take just 17 hours from Perth non-stop.

“This is a game-changing route flown by a game-changing aircraft. Australians have never had a direct link to Europe before, so the opportunities this opens up are huge.”

The flights will begin to operate in March 2018, with seats for the first flight from Perth to London going on sale in this coming April (2017).

Discussing the announcement, the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Steven Ciobo, said: “I welcome the announcement today of a new non-stop service between Perth and London by Qantas Airways.

“This announcement shows the sky-high potential of the Australian tourism industry, which is already outperforming the rest of the Australian economy.

“There has never been a non-stop passenger service linking Australia and Europe. This new route will make it easier for tourists from the United Kingdom and throughout Europe to get to Australia.”

Ciobo continued: “The United Kingdom is Australia’s third largest source market for international visitors. More than 660,000 tourists came to Australia from the United Kingdom in the last year, spending $3.7 billion.

Tweeting about the news, Qantas updated their Twitter page: “Europe just got a whole lot closer. Non-stop flights from Perth to London beginning March 2018. The first route for our Qantas Dreamliners.”
