Trump Wins Vote Over Clinton in Race to the White House

Donald Trump has beaten Hillary Clinton to be the next President of the US.

This morning, the world is waking up to the shocking news that reality TV star and businessman, Donald Trump, will be taking over from Barack Obama to take on the White House.

270 votes were required to win the brutal campaign, out of a total 538, with Trump receiving 276, and Clinton receiving 218.

The world watched on in shock, as Trump beat Clinton to the 270 votes needed, to become the 45th President of the United States.

Clinton had been leading polls to become the first female president, however her chances were becoming less and less, as the results of the vote begun to pour in.

After being declared the new President, Mr Trump took to the stage at a New York hotel, where his victory rally took place, surrounded by his family, and said: “I just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us on our victory.

“Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country.”

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all of Americans, and this is so important to me.

“For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country.

“As I’ve said from the beginning, ours was not a campaign but rather an incredible and great movement, made up of millions of hard-working men and women who love their country and want a better, brighter future for themselves and for their family.”

He continued: “America will no longer settle for anything less than the best. We must reclaim our country’s destiny and dream big and bold and daring. We have to do that. We’re going to dream of things for our country, and beautiful things and successful things once again.”

Trump wrapped up his victory speech, by saying: “I can only say that while the campaign is over, our work on this movement in now really just beginning. We’re going to get to work immediately for the American people, and we’re going to be doing a job that hopefully you will be so proud of your president. You will be so proud. It’s an honour.

“It’s an amazing evening. It’s been an amazing period, and I love this country. Thank you.”

Issuing a statement on Trump's win, Prime Minister, Theresa May, has said: “I would like to congratulate Donald Trump on being elected the next President of the United States, following a hard-fought campaign.

“Britain and the United States have an enduring and special relationship based on the values of freedom, democracy and enterprise.

“We are, and will remain, strong and close partners on trade, security and defence.

“I look forward to working with President-elect Donald Trump, building on these ties to ensure the security and prosperity of our nations in the years ahead.”

Trump plans to begin work “immediately.”
