US Embassy and FCDO Issue Statements Clearing Up Trump Entry Confusion

The U.S. embassy in the UK and the FCDO have issued statements clearing up confusion of entry requirements for British nationals entering the United States, following Trump’s sudden ban.

The statements come following Trump issuing a ban against nationals and dual nationals of the following seven majority Muslim countries: Libya, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, and Syria.

Issued yesterday (30th January), the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office stated:

“Temporary immigration measures are in place for nationals of Libya, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

“British passport holders, including British nationals who hold dual nationality with these countries, aren’t affected by these measures.”

The U.S. embassy in the UK issued an emergency statement:

“Beginning January 27, 2017, travellers who have nationality or dual nationality of one of these countries will not be permitted for 90 days to enter the United States or be issued an immigrant or non-immigrant visa.

“Those nationals or dual nationals holding valid immigrant or non-immigrant visas will not be permitted to enter the United States during this period. Visa interviews will generally not be scheduled for nationals of these countries during this period.

“Dual nationals of the United Kingdom and one of these countries are exempt from the Executive Order when travelling on a valid United Kingdom passport and U.S. visa.”

Trump has caused controversy across America and the rest of the world with his strong views on women's rights, and not allowing entrance to travellers from the seven majority Muslim countries.

Protest and marches have been held across the world, and more are scheduled, following the announcement that Prime Minister, Theresa May, has invited the new President for a state visit. A petition has gained more than 1.5 million signatures against his visit, and only needed 10,000 signatures for the Government to respond.
